Casper is safely returned just in time for Christmas

Casper, a white male cat, from Robertsbridge, East
Sussex, has recently been reunited with his family just in time for
Christmas after being missing for over six months! Casper is just
one of the many thousands of pets reunited with their owners,
thanks to Petlog, the largest pet reunification
service in the UK, which safeguards over 3 million pets.
"Casper went missing on 24th June 2008," said owner,
Tracy Veness.
"When he first went missing we walked for miles around all the
surrounding fields, put up loads of posters in the village,
contacted all the local cat societies and obviously alerted
Petlog.
"We were amazed at how many white cats there actually are in the
area. We thought there were only a few! But being in a village, we
were amazed at how kind and helpful everybody seemed to be in
trying to help us find him. Even as the months went on people still
kept providing leads and we never gave up hope!
"Then one day, my daughter, Alice (8 years) was off sick and I
was out in the garden and the next thing I knew she was hanging out
of the window shouting with excitement that Casper had been found!
A vet at Goudhurst, a good half an hour drive from us had scanned
Casper and found the contact information on his chip.
"He had been handed in from Bell-Bedgebury, an International
Language School, which is situated in a beautiful mansion house
with a paneled reception hall and a roaring fire. Apparently he had
been there for a few weeks hanging around and had been wandering in
and out of the Principal's Office, sleeping in front of the fire,
and then popping round to the school's kitchens for a light
snack!
"But where he had been before that no one knows. We can only
think he must have got into a lorry or car as we can't imagine he
could have wandered that distance by himself.
"He looked very well and it only took a couple of days for him
to settle in back home. We are just so pleased we decided to have
him chipped otherwise we would never have had him returned and we
would always have been half looking and wondering what had happened
to him.
"When he first went missing, I read some of the Petlog stories
of how pets have been reunited with their owners and it gave me
hope that he could still be found, even though I could see people
thought I was slightly mad to be thinking that!
"We are all delighted to have Casper back. This is a wonderful
Christmas story, one that will be told down many generations I'm
sure, of Casper the Christmas Cat!!
"For us, this is a true Christmas present!"
Sadly, thousands of pets go missing every year and many are not
reunited with their owners as they do not have any form of
identification. Casper's remarkable story is just one of the many
success stories where pets have been reunited with their owners as
they have taken responsibility for their pet's safety and welfare
by having a microchip inserted under the animal's skin.
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club spokesperson commented "It's really
heart-warming to hear Casper's story. This is why the Kennel Club
created Petlog, to reunite owners with their missing pets.
Unfortunately, it is all too easy for your pet to run off and end
up lost and alone. We're happy to hear that Casper has been
reunited with his family just in time for Christmas!"
Petlog understands just how devastating it can be for an owner
to lose a pet and it is dedicated to encouraging owners to identify
their pets properly, whether it's a dog, cat, rabbit, tortoise or
even a horse, so that, when found, they can be reunited as quickly
as possible. Based in Buckinghamshire, Petlog is on hand 24 hours a
day, 365 days a year, for animal wardens, welfare centres,
veterinary practices, rescue centres and local authorities, who can
scan microchips found in missing pets and trace their owners
through the Petlog database - a service dedicated to helping owners
to find their lost pets.
Having a microchip implanted in your pet vastly increases a
pet's chances of getting home, as if found it can be scanned and
identified by its unique reference number and reunited rather than
put in kennels or re-homed. Pet owners have a legal requirement to
ensure that their pet is under their control and this includes some
form of proper identification.
Petlog provides a range of services for owners of microchipped
pets. For further information, please visit www.petlog.org.uk or call 0844
463 3999.
