Petlog returns Gizmo the cat after 2 years

Gizmo, a shorthaired cat from Milton Keynes, has
recently been reunited with his family after being missing for over
2 years! Gizmo is just one of the many thousands of pets reunited
with their owners, thanks to Petlog, the largest pet reunification
service in the UK, which safeguards over 3 million pets.
Gizmo went missing after Karen Jones moved home 2 years ago. Karen
vividly remembers the distress that Gizmo's disappearance caused:
"I accidentally left the back door open just after I moved into my
new home back in 2005, and sadly he escaped. I was absolutely
heartbroken as you can imagine. I advertised in my local paper and
hoped that someone had found him."
Remarkably it wasn't until a week ago, when Gizmo was scanned for
his Bayer microchip, that he was identified through Petlog. Said
Karen, "We thought he had gone for good until we got a call from
the vet telling us that he had been spotted by a member of the
public. The RSPCA had picked him up and scanned him for his
microchip. We had decided to microchip all our pets after one of
our other cats had gone missing a couple of years before. We got
her back after a month but it made me very aware of how easy it is
to lose your pet and how microchipping plays a huge part in finding
them again."
Sadly, thousands of pets go missing every year and many are not
reunited with their owners as they do not have any form of
identification. Gizmo's remarkable and emotional story is just one
of the many success stories where pets have been reunited because
their owners have taken responsibility for their pet's safety and
welfare by having a microchip painlessly inserted under the pet's
skin. Karen expressed her gratitude, saying: "I am so thankful to
the RSPCA and to Petlog for playing such crucial roles in returning
Gizmo to me. Everyone should realise how important microchipping
your pet is in aiding the return of a much loved family
member."
Petlog understands just how devastating it can be for an owner to
lose a pet and it is dedicated to encouraging owners to properly
identify their pets, whether it's a dog, cat, rabbit, tortoise or
even a horse, so that, when found, they can be reunited as quickly
as possible. Based in Buckinghamshire, Petlog is on hand 24
hours a day, 365 days a year, to animal wardens, welfare centres,
veterinary practices, rescue centres and local authorities, who can
scan microchips found in missing pets and trace their owners
through the Petlog database - a service dedicated to helping owners
to find their lost pets.
Having a microchip implanted in your pet vastly increases a pet's
chances of getting home, as if found it can be scanned and
identified by its unique reference number and reunited rather than
put in kennels or rehomed. Pet owners have a legal
requirement to ensure that their pet is under their control and
this includes some form of proper identification. Petlog
provides a range of services for owners of microchipped pets; for
