Petlog reunites Guinness and Blackberry
Issued 1 August 2011
Guinness, the appropriately named black and white
cat, has been reunited with his delighted West Midlands owner,
Lewis Gibson after seven months missing, thanks to Petlog, the UK's
largest animal microchip registration database.
Guinness, from near Bournville, Birmingham, went missing over
Christmas last year, leaving owner Lewis and his other cat
Blackberry, Guinness's sister with a gaping hole in their lives.
This week however, Guinness is getting ready to return home to his
loving family as he was found and identified through his PetID
microchip which is registered with Petlog.
Guinness went missing in Sheffield whilst on a visit to Lewis's
parents. Lewis explains: "Guinness managed to sneak out of the
house despite provisions to keep him inside and went wandering. As
it was an area he didn't know we were immediately worried and
reported him lost to the Sheffield cat sanctuaries and vets. We put
posters up in the area but after several months there were still no
sightings.
"Luckily my parents spotted a familiar looking cat on the way
home one day last week and after a bit of bribery got him into the
cat box. They took him to the vets where he was scanned for his
microchip and Petlog were able to confirm that he was indeed my
lost cat Guinness.
"Blackberry has been missing Guinness over the last seven months
and will no doubt be ecstatic when Guinness returns home. I have
noticed that, since he has been gone, she has been meowing a lot
more and demanding more attention. The two cats often ended up
curled up and cleaning each other - they play together and so I'm
sure they'll be happy to be together again."
Petlog, which is owned and managed by the Kennel Club, is on
hand 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to animal wardens, welfare
and rescue centres, veterinary practices and local authorities, who
can all scan for microchips in pets which come into their care and
trace the owners through the Petlog database. Having a microchip
implanted in your pet vastly increases a pet's chances of getting
home.
Petlog provides a range of services for owners of microchipped
pets; for further information, please visit www.petlog.org.uk
