Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?
Issued N/A
Scooby-Doo might be best known for driving around
in the 'Mystery Machine' along with four other 'meddling kids', but
August 2007 saw Scooby the Staffordshire Bull Terrier go missing
from his home in Manchester after shrewdly finding a hole in the
garden fence.
Owner Denise Braithwaite was devastated when her beloved pet went
missing. "We searched far and wide for Scooby," Denise explained,
"even reporting him missing at our local vets, dogs home and police
station. After putting posters up in the local shops and asking all
our neighbours to keep an eye out for him, we had to accept that
Scooby might not return home. My three children all adore Scooby;
it was heartbreaking having to tell them he was not coming
home."
Lucky for Denise, this is one Scooby adventure that didn't end
disastrously! Denise had realised the importance of microchipping
and had ensured all her pets were microchipped and registered with
Petlog, the UK's largest reunification database.
Denise continued, "A week before Easter 2008 we had a knock on the
door from a lady who claimed to have Scooby! Unfortunately Scooby
had been taken in by a man who had mistreated him and kept him
locked up. The lady had taken Scooby to a rehoming kennel in
Macclesfield where he was scanned for his Bayer Tracer microchip
and found that he had been reported missing with Petlog.
"Waiting for Scooby to be returned to us felt like forever, even
though he was back with us within the day! Seeing the dog we
thought we would never see again come bounding out of the car was
amazing. He jumped all over us; it was such an emotional time for
everyone.
"It's as if Scooby has never been away! We are so pleased we
decided to have our dogs microchipped with Petlog. National
Microchipping Month is coming up in June and we really hope other
families go along to one of the microchipping clinics around the
country and get their pet chipped, or their story might not end as
happily as ours did."
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club spokesperson added, "National
Microchipping Month aims to encourage vets from around the country
to hold microchipping clinics in their surgeries. Scooby's story
highlights just how important microchipping is and we hope the
public will go along to one of the many vet chipping clinics posted
on the Kennel Club website."
