Sooty heads straight for the pub after 18 months missing

People all over the UK may well be suffering with
the winter blues this month but for one lucky pub landlord February
has been particularly cheerful after he was reunited with his
missing tabby cat, Sooty.
Sean Sanders from Banbury has been reunited with Sooty after 18
months apart. Sooty went missing after wandering off one night back
in August 2006. Luckily for Sooty, Sean had microchipped his
beloved pet with a Bayer microchip and registered him with Petlog,
the UK's largest reunification database, which is owned and run by
the Kennel Club.
Sean explained, "We were really concerned when Sooty didn't return
home. At first we assumed he had gone off for a couple of days and
would return when he was good and ready, but after a week or so we
realised something was wrong.
"We placed posters all around our local area and asked the postman
to keep a look out. Eventually we rang Petlog and reported him
missing."
No one is quite sure what adventures Sooty got himself caught up in
during his time away from home but he eventually turned up over 100
miles away! The Sanders family got a call from a vet late one night
to say that he had been found. Fortunately, they had remembered to
update their contact details via Petlog Premium when they moved
house to Banbury a few weeks after Sooty's disappearance.
Sean continued, "I jumped straight in the car and drove to get him,
and sure enough there was Sooty. It is so wonderful to have him
back with us now. So much has changed for him - we now have another
dog and cat and our son, who was only a few months old when Sooty
went missing, is now walking! We are so pleased to have him back
and know it is all down to Petlog. I have always known having your
pet microchipped is important but I didn't realise it would make
such a difference with my own pet."
Sadly, thousands of pets go missing every year and many are not
reunited with their owners as they do not have any form of
identification. Sooty's remarkable and emotional story is just one
of the many success stories where pets have been reunited because
their owners have taken responsibility for their pet's safety and
welfare by having a microchip painlessly inserted under the pet's
skin.
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club spokesperson commented "We understand
just how devastating it can be for an owner to lose a pet. Petlog
is dedicated to encouraging owners to properly identify their pets,
whether it's a dog, cat, rabbit, tortoise or even a horse, so that,
when found, they can be reunited as quickly as possible."
